Monsoon session of Parliament: Opposition parties uproar on many issues, forcefully adjourned

Parliament Monsoon Session: As the new session of Parliament began today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was unable to introduce new members of his Council of Ministers in the Lok Sabha on Monday due to uproar by the opposition.

The lower house of Parliament saw two adjournments due to incessant sloganeering by members of the opposition parties, after which the house was adjourned for the day.

Four newly elected members took oath at 11 am. After this, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s introduction of new members in the Council of Ministers in the Lok Sabha, members of some opposition parties, including the Congress, started creating ruckus over the three new agricultural laws of the Center and other subjects.

On this, the Prime Minister took a jibe at the opposition members and said that some people do not like that Dalit, Adivasi, OBC and women ministers should be introduced in the House.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla appealed to the opposition members, including the Congress, to remain calm. “Don’t break the tradition”. You have been in government for a long time. The dignity of the House should not be lowered by breaking the tradition. Maintain the dignity of this House… The Prime Minister is the leader of the House and after the reshuffle he is introducing the Council of Ministers to maintain the dignity of the House.”

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi also appealed to the protesting opposition members to peacefully allow the introduction of new ministers.

Amid the sloganeering, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit out at the opposition, saying: “I was thinking that there would be an atmosphere of enthusiasm in the House as a large number of our women MPs have become ministers… today the atmosphere will be happy that our tribals A large number of colleagues have become ministers. He said that people coming from a large number of farmer families and from rural environment, from socially and economically backward society should have got a place in the council of ministers. More happiness in their introduction.”

Rajya Sabha proceedings adjourned for the day

Due to uproar by other opposition parties, the proceedings of the Upper House were repeatedly disrupted on Monday and the House was finally adjourned for the day at around 3.20 pm.

After the adjournment of the Rajya Sabha, the uproar of the opposition members continued even after the resumption of the House at 3 pm. But Deputy Chairman Harivansh did not allow them and said that the decision in this regard has been given by the Speaker and it will not be reconsidered.

Amid the uproar, the Minister of Shipping and Ports Sarbananda Sonowal introduced the Maritime Assistance to Shipping Bill 2021 for discussion in the House. Some members also participated in the discussion on the bill, but they could not be heard properly due to the noise.

The Deputy Chairman urged the members to sit and participate in the discussion, shouting slogans near the seat. He also appealed to the members to follow the norms of COVID. But, the commotion continued in the House and they adjourned the meeting for the whole day at around 3.20 pm.
