Monsoon News: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said that monsoon has covered the entire country as it finally entered states like Gujarat and Rajasthan. After several days of cloudy weather, the national capital has also received incessant rains in the last few days. The IMD has also said that monsoon may pick up pace in the coming months, and has predicted well-distributed rainfall in July.

“The southwest monsoon has made an onset over the country on Saturday, six days before the normal date of July 8,” the Met Office said. The southwest monsoon started over Kerala on May 29, three days before the normal date of June 1.

However, the progress of the southwest monsoon, which is crucial for the agriculture-based economy, has been sluggish, as the country has recorded an eight per cent deficit in rainfall.

Meteorologists expect the monsoon to pick up pace in the coming months and have predicted good rains in July.
