Bhubaneswar: Puri Police arrested Maheshwari on Thursday Mohanty (36), an auto-rickshaw driver, who fled after allegedly raping a 5-year-old girl on January 23. “We took up the matter with the highest priority and formed four separate teams to arrest the accused. Chargesheet will be filed in 20 days. The police will do its best to facilitate speedy trial and conviction in the case. Police sources said Mohanty had been booked in four petty cases in the past (one in 2013 and three in 2017). After committing the latest crime, he had reportedly hidden himself in Pipili area and was trying to get a job of a private security guard in an apartment.
Accused Mohanty is an acquaintance of the victim’s family. Mohanty lived near the house of the rape victim. When he went to the neighborhood on Sunday afternoon, he saw that the girl was playing alone outside her house.
Mohanty allegedly sexually assaulted her by taking her to the terrace of the house by luring her with chocolates. news network
