Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has signed a deal with Sussex for County Championship and T20 cricket for the 2022 season.
Rizwan will arrive in England after the conclusion of Australia’s tour of Pakistan on April 5 next year and will be available for most of the County Championship season and T20 matches. He will open the batting with Luke Wright, replacing Phil Salt – who has left for Lancashire.

After signing the agreement, Rizwan said, “I am absolutely honored and excited to be part of the historic Sussex County Cricket Club for the 2022 season. I have always heard great things about the Sussex community and this family club has always was close to my heart.”
“In my heart, I know that our youth team has the potential to beat any team. Our strength lies in our hard work, honesty, deep commitment and self-belief: we can win, we will win, and we will play like champions no matter what! I am looking forward to a great season.”
Sussex’s ODI coach Ian Salisbury said, “I would be lying if I said that I was not really disappointed to learn that we would be losing a player of the quality of Ben Brown. Now that has happened, however, we have to look further and more.” I am glad that we have been able to act fast over the past week to secure one of the best keeper-batsmen in the world as a replacement. Rizwan’s first-class and Test records speak for themselves and It is a huge coup to welcome him to Sussex for a large part of the next season.”

Sussex T20 head coach James Curtley is also very excited by this news.
“Rizwan averages around 40 at an impressive strike rate across all formats. Combine this with his wicketkeeping ability and he is one of the most exciting cricketers in the world. He will be an excellent replacement at the top of the order and in our Blast team with gloves and I am extremely happy to fill that gap with an international player of his caliber.”
