Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) has started the construction of the proposed indoor stadium, which will have three kabaddi and five badminton courts. A basement and G+5 sports complex with a seating capacity of 800 spectators was planned at an estimated cost of Rs 20.54 crore. The stadium will be built on a built-up area of ​​9588.8 sqm and will have 103 car parking in the basement. A tender worth Rs 18.08 crore for the project has already been awarded to Mugrodi Construction.
MSCL executive engineer Chandrakant told TOI that the four floors of the complex include cloak room, medical room, physiotherapy area, officers’ room, changing room, locker room, toilet block, administrative office, hostel for boys and girls, gymnasium, indoor Games room, VIP lounge and a spacious parking area in the basement.
The then Sports Minister Pramod Madhavraj had laid the foundation of the project in March 2018 in the presence of former MLA JR Lobo. Initially, the project was planned to be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 35 crore. However, the project was delayed due to exorbitant cost. Later, the estimated cost was reduced to Rs 20.54 crore, and the same was taken up through MSCL.
Mangaluru city South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath took the initiative to implement the project through MSCL and the second foundation ceremony was held on November 4 in the presence of Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
MSCL officials said that they analyzed a large amount of relevant literature related to indoor sports complex projects and later incorporated them in the detailed project report.
