Renowned social activist Vanramchhuangi, popularly known as Ruatfela Nu, said she would start a silent dharna here from Friday to protest against the environmental violations caused by various development projects. He alleged that forests and rivers are being destroyed indiscriminately by various projects, which is also ruining the socio-economic mobility of the indigenous people.

“I will start a silent protest in front of the office of the State Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department from Friday morning to protest against the violation of environment by various development projects,” she said.

Vanramchhuangi said that she would also submit a representation to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests seeking a ban on the construction or widening of National Highways by the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), which is affecting the ecology.

She said that she would also launch awareness campaigns in other districts where national highways are being widened or constructed. The social worker said that she has been campaigning against the ill-effects of road projects without proper assessment and indiscriminate disposal of soil from construction sites for the past three years, but to no effect.

He alleged that NHIDCL has violated environmental and social considerations by disposing of soil indiscriminately, which has badly affected agricultural land and polluted rivers.
