Mizoram Election 2023: Security has been tightened across the state for the assembly poll, voting for which is taking place tomorrow, November 7

Congress has announced candidates for 19 constituencies so far for the 40-seat Mizoram assembly elections, voting for which will take place on November 7.

Security has been tightened across the state for the assembly poll and along international borders with Bangladesh and Myanmar ahead of voting day.

Campaigning for the November 7 Mizoram assembly elections ended at 4pm on Sunday with no reports of any law and order problems throughout the month-long period, additional chief electoral officer H Lianzela said.

Congress Mizoram president Lalsawta has asserted that the party will win at least 25 of the 40 assembly seats in the November 7 Mizoram elections, adding that it will initiate a series of reforms after attaining power to wipe out corruption and bring in good governance.

The 77-year-old veteran politician, in an interview with news agency PTI, had underlined that only the Congress can steer Mizoram out of “financial mismanagement” and promised to introduce the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) if it returns to power.
