Aizawl, October 29: The Mizoram government on Friday eased COVID-19 restrictions with the reopening of schools and hostels for class 10 and 12 students in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation area, an official said. He said that the new guidelines will come into effect from October 31.

Amid relaxations, schools and hostels will be allowed to reopen in the AMC area for class 10 and 12 students, who will appear for board exams next year, the official said. These facilities have been closed in the municipal area. In cities and villages outside the AMC area, physical classes have been resumed in schools for students from KG to class 12, he said, adding that the functioning of Anganwadi centers was resumed from August 15 Is. Other educational institutions, including colleges, have also reopened in COVID free zones outside AMCs from September 5. Places of worship will remain open in all parts of the state, and now day and night worship is allowed with 50 per cent capacity in the morning and evening. Prayers are also allowed, the guidelines said.

However, mass services in churches are now only allowed during the daytime in all parts of the state. This time, there is no specific day specified in the guidelines on which churches will be open for mass services.

Earlier, these were allowed during day time only on Sundays and Saturdays. In areas outside AMC jurisdiction, the Deputy Commissioners will issue guidelines based on the COVID-19 situation in their respective areas, it said.

However, villages and towns were allowed to reopen educational institutions under the arrangement of the concerned Deputy Commissioner in consultation with district level officials of the health department and village task forces, the guidelines said. It said that the SOP prepared by the concerned departments needs to be strictly followed.

Night curfew will continue from 9 pm to 4 am at all district headquarters including state capital Aizawl. The guidelines said that as per the recommendation of the State Level Expert Team on COVID-19 Management, the Deputy Commissioners will declare micro containment zones and other restrictions within their districts based on the local situation.
