Manipal: Beach covid-19 pandemic, ns Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) has planned mixed mode of education this academic year. However, this may change if there is a third wave of COVID-19, said Commander Anil Rana, director of MIT. Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE).
He told TOI, “Currently students can look forward to conducting physical classes and workshop related activities, continuing their major projects and creative exploration of their ideas in innovation centers and workshops. All this will be done under strict adherence to COVID-appropriate behaviour. Special sessions will also be organized to clarify the theory questions from the students. Guest lectures by industry experts, adjunct faculty and alumni are being planned. Quizzes, case study discussions and other modes of evaluation will continue as usual,” said Commander Rana.
He said that in the last year itself his classes were scheduled with lecture capture module, which enabled live and recorded streaming of lectures.
“We have a campus-wide license of Office 365, which provides an opportunity to use MS teams in our teaching and assessment process. Faculty members are able to upload all reading materials, adopt online learning technologies such as quizzes and video observation, and Were able to employ innovative assessment practices.Meanwhile, faculty have also been able to understand how students react to online learning, and by conducting quizzes and discussing case studies, thus avoiding monotonous modes of learning Giving a pause, the system has been changed accordingly. Online mode can never replace physical mode. We are also looking at incorporating transcription and gamification into the online learning mode,” said Commander Rana.
