BHUBANESWAR/KENDRAPADA: steel magnate and executive chairman of the world’s largest steel producer, ArcelorMittal, Lakshmi Niwas Mittal met the chief minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday at the latter’s residence here.
This is the second meeting of the ArcelorMittal boss with the chief minister in the last six months. Official sources in the Chief Minister’s Office said the meeting lasted for an hour, during which Mittal discussed the company’s proposed steel plant project at Kendrapara with the Chief Minister.
Mittal thanked the chief minister for the cooperation extended by the state government and the Kendrapara district administration for the proposed steel complex. Naveen asked Mittal to expedite the company’s project in Odisha.
On March 4, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Limited (AMNS India), a joint venture (JV) of ArcelorMittal and Japan’s Nippon Steel, partnered with the state government to set up a 12 MTPA integrated steel complex with an investment in Kendrapara district. A memorandum of understanding was signed. 50,000 crores. The MoU was signed in the presence of the Chief Minister and the Chairman of the company.
The officials of the state government and AMNS India have started the process of searching the land for the mega steel mill project. The company has identified approximately 6,500 acres of land in the Mahakalpara area of ​​Kendrapara district as an area of ​​initial interest for the steel complex.
