Guru Somasundaram is a prominent face of Tamil theatre, who has also appeared in a few films. She made her debut in films with Aranya Kandam directed by Thiagarajan Kumarajan. He received critical acclaim for the film, and he appeared in a few more films. However, apart from Aranya Kandam and Joker, Tamil cinema has not made good use of them. But a Malayalam film has cast her in a role that seems designed for her. This quality role for Guru Somasundaram came in Netflix’s new release Minnal Murali.
Tovino Thomas plays the superhero and central character in the film. Guru is Somasundaram Shibu, whose character is a social outcast. Guru was highly praised for his performance in Minnal Murali. He is now attracting attention from various circles.
Guru Somasundaram’s performance as the protagonist in Minnal Murali saw him by some of the finest in the Malayalam film industry. Guru will be next seen in the much-awaited Barrows: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasury, which is being directed by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. This is the first film directed by Mohanlal.
The film is based on the novel by Jijo Punnas. It is a fantasy thriller. Guru has also acted in two other Malayalam films titled ‘5 Sundarikal’ and ‘Kohinoor’.
If reports are to be believed, after Minnal Murali was wrapped up, Mohanlal decided to cast Guru Somasundaram in Burroughs. Somasundaram told ETimes, “I spoke to Mohanlal sir over phone and he said that we will work together very soon and asked me to prepare my travel pass.”
Experts say that this is a good sign that Malayalam cinema is giving excellent opportunities to talented character actors.
