Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai tests positive the day after meeting CAPF chiefs

New Delhi: Nityanand Rai on Thursday became the latest Union Minister to test positive for Covid-19. The Union Minister of State for Home tested positive a day after he attended an event where the chief of the Central Armed Police Forces was present.

Nityanand Rai tweeted in Hindi, “I have tested positive for Kovid. I have completely isolated myself. People who came in contact with me are requested to take necessary steps.”

On Thursday morning, Bharti Praveen Pawar, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, tested positive for the virus.

Earlier this week, Union Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey was admitted to a hospital after testing positive for the infection.

On Wednesday, the minister attended an event at Shaurya Adhikari Sansthan in New Delhi, where Ayushman health cards were distributed among CAPF personnel.

Chiefs of CRPF, BSF, ITBP, CISF and SSB were present on the occasion. Representatives of NSG and Assam Rifles were also present.

In the program Nityanand Rai said that the government has provided around 35 lakh Ayushman health cards to CAPF personnel and their families. The minister said that they can now avail cashless treatment in 24000 empaneled hospitals across the country.

After giving the last 10 cards, the Union Minister said, “There will be no spending limit (under the scheme).”

“It will now become much easier for the families of jawans of various forces living in remote areas of the country to get treatment,” Rai was quoted as saying by PTI.
