New Delhi: Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharani Will be on a six-day tour next week Guatemalahandjob Jamaica and the Bahamas, during which he will hold talks with the top leadership of those countries to boost bilateral ties.

This will be Muraleedharan’s first visit to Guatemala, Jamaica and the Bahamas as Minister of State for External Affairs and during the visit, he will meet the top leadership and meet the foreign ministers of these countries, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

During the visit, Muraleedharan will meet the Minister of Economy of Guatemala and interact with the business community, including the heads of Guatemalan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, to increase bilateral trade, currently USD 309.86 million, and boost investments.
The minister will also interact with the Indian community in Guatemala who is the current Provisional Supporter Chair of the Central American System of Integration (SICA), with which India has an established engagement mechanism.
The External Affairs Ministry said Muraleedharan will next visit Jamaica on July 7-8 and this will be the first visit by an Indian minister to Jamaica in four years.
In addition to his official engagements, will inaugurate the bust of Muraleedharan Mahatma Gandhi In May Penn town and visit Old Harbor Bay where the first Indians landed in Jamaica 175 years ago.
The Ministry of External Affairs said it would also hold talks with a wider section of Jamaican society, including business leaders and members of the Indian community.
The minister will also visit the Bahamas (9-10 July) and this will be the first solo high-level visit from India to the Caribbean island.
In addition to his official meetings, Muraleedharan will interact with Bahamian society which will include business leaders and members of the Indian community.
India’s relations with Jamaica and the Bahamas have been cordial and based on democracy, membership commonwealthEnglish language and cultural heritage. They also support each other’s candidacy in various multilateral fora.
The minister’s visit will provide an opportunity to review progress in bilateral ties and further strengthen the country’s multi-faceted ties with the three countries, including SICA and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the statement said.
