Mine accident in Jharkhand LIVE: 60 feet road collapses due to illegal mining in Dhanbad, more than 50 people feared trapped

A major accident took place in Dhanbad, Jharkhand on Thursday. Due to illegal mining in the closed mines of BCCL in Dumrijod of Chirkunda police station area, about 60 feet of unpaved road has collapsed. More than 50 people are feared trapped here. All the people are residents of Purulia in West Bengal.

Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Singh said that no loss of life or property has been reported so far. The unpaved road leading to the mines is sunken. Administration and BCCL team have reached the spot. NDRF team has been called to the spot for relief and rescue work. Heavy police force is deployed at the spot.

The mine is closed for 6 years
According to sources, around 8.30 am on Thursday, suddenly 60 feet of the road collapsed. People say that when this accident happened, more than 125 people were present in the mine. Many of them escaped and saved their lives. According to people, about 2 trucks of illegal coal are mined in a day. This mine is closed for the last six years.

Chirkunda police inspector cum station in-charge Jitendra Kumar has reached the spot after receiving the news of the incident. He told, ‘We are probing the matter from every angle. Police is also trying to find out if this incident has not happened due to illegal mining done earlier. Last year also there was news of road collapse.
