SRINAGAR: Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh said on Saturday that militants are looking for easy targets to create unrest.

The DGP’s remarks come a day after a civilian and a policeman were shot dead in separate incidents in Kulgam district.

Singh visited Kulgam in South Kashmir and Handwara area of ​​Kupwara in North Kashmir, where he led officers and relatives to pay floral tributes to Bantu Sharma and Sub-Inspector Arshid Ahmed Mir.

Sharma was killed on Friday, while Mir was shot dead on September 12 in Khanyar area of ​​the city.

A police spokesperson said Singh also presided over the officers’ meetings to review the security situation in these districts and asked the authorities to crack down on suspected elements of terrorist organizations and Overground Workers (OGWs) providing any support to terrorist activities. Senior officers of police, army and CRPF were present in the meeting.

He said Singh directed officials to re-look at security plans as the militants are looking for easy targets to create unrest and emphasizing on counter strategies and preventive measures.

The DGP stressed on the officers to be extra vigilant and ordered several countermeasures to prevent incidents like the killing of a civilian and a policeman in Kulgam.

He said that protecting the lives of the people is the prime concern and every attempt by anti-national elements to disrupt the peaceful environment will be dealt with sternly.

Singh directed the officials to intensify the operation against the terrorists and their support network and stressed that the terrorists involved in Friday’s killings should be brought to justice very soon.

The DGP directed the officers to enhance security at sensitive locations and locations and stressed on using latest technology to monitor the movement of suspicious elements.

Reiterating the importance of maintaining close coordination between the police and other agencies to meet the security challenges, Singh said the killings of infiltrators in various border areas in the recent past are an indicator that Pakistan and its agencies are in trouble. He urged the officials to exercise caution to check the movement of anti-peace elements in the borders and hinterland.

Earlier, along with Kashmir IGP Vijay Kumar, the DGP paid tributes to Bantu Sharma in Kulgam.

In the afternoon, the DGP met the family of sub-inspector Arshad Ahmed Mir and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family, he said.

Singh assured that all possible help would be provided to the family. The spokesman said that the people of the village who came to mourn the death of Ahmed spoke to the DGP in large numbers. PTI
