Milind Soman’s wife Ankita Konwar on battling depression: ‘Not everyone who looks fine is fine’

Fitness enthusiast Ankita Konwar, who is married to actor-model Milind Soman, has opened up about battling depression and anxiety in her new Instagram post. He also mentioned some practices that help those who ever go through such feelings.

Ankita on Wednesday posted a picture of herself on Instagram in which she was smiling while drinking. She revealed that though she looked fine in the photo, she didn’t look well at all. In a long note, she wrote, “A picture from recent days, a day when I had a storm in my head but calmness with a smile on my face. Yes, I still have some days where everything is not ‘fine’. Not everyone who looks ‘fine’ is actually okay.

Things can seem overwhelming and meaningless at the same time. But I’m not as scared as before. Even after living long periods of anxiety and depression and running out of whatever courage I had, I still suffer small episodes of dark spots. Way shorter, way shorter and better than the way I was actually going through the ‘all-consuming’ days.”

She continued, “But now, I’m stronger, more positive and I manage to see bright light through dark patches. I don’t let it consume me, I cry when I have to.” Turns out, I don’t hold my thoughts the way I used to.

I let them come and go as they please. It takes a lot of practice but I am getting better at it. I remember reading somewhere that ‘some of us need a little more effort than the rest to survive in this world’ and I have finally come to accept this fact. Of course, our life events and experiences play a huge role in this.

But we should get all the help we can to work our way through it. It’s not easy and no, it doesn’t get easier, you just get better and stronger.”

In an earlier Instagram post, Ankita opened up on her childhood abuse and multiple losses. “Abused as a child, grew up in hostels, lived alone in foreign cities, betrayed by the people I trusted the most. Lost a brother, lost an ex-boyfriend, lost my father. I am called by name for the way I look and for being with the person I love. So if you see me being an optimist, just know that I am! Love yourself,” she wrote.

One of the things keeping Ankita ‘sane’ during challenging times is running, she said earlier. “These short runs are definitely alerting me. is making you wiser? Stay active, stay alert, eat well and get good rest.”
