One such person is Prashant Kamani, who was recently fired by Microsoft as a part of layoffs. He joined Microsoft almost 21 years ago as his first job after college. “I feel a sense of gratitude more than anything else,” he said in a LinkedIn post sharing the news of his layoff.

“Today I was notified that my position at Microsoft has been terminated. As I reflect on it today, I feel a sense of gratitude more than anything. Microsoft was my first job out of college, and I still remember coming to a foreign land, nervous and excited, wondering what life had in store for me,” he said.

Having worked at Microsoft for over 21 years, across multiple roles, multiple organizations, as an IC and as a manager, Kamani said that having worked with Microsoft, across customer, hybrid and service software, V1 products and V10+, UX, backend and everything in between Some, “I can really say it has been very satisfying and rewarding”.

He said, “I was watching a documentary “Stutz” the other day, in which Dr. Stutz says that there are three aspects of reality – pain, uncertainty and persistent work. You grow by working and dealing with pain and uncertainty. And you derive happiness not by relying on the result but by embracing the process. I will try to internalize that through this journey.”

Recently, Microsoft announced that it will lay off 10,000 employees – about five percent of its total workforce – in the coming days amid concerns of a global economic recession. The job cuts were made “in response to macroeconomic conditions and changing customer preferences,” the maker of the Windows operating system said in a US regulatory filing. Microsoft is the latest to cut jobs after Facebook and Amazon in a bloodbath in the tech sector that began last year, continuing through 2023.

Microsoft also announced layoffs in July and August.
