Microsoft may soon launch a new version of Outlook Lite for Android

With an aim to make it lighter and faster, tech giant Microsoft is working to launch a new ‘Outlook Lite’ app, which may soon be available for Android users.

The mention of the upcoming Outlook Lite app for Android was added to the roadmap on June 30. And, according to the entry, the tech giant plans to make the new app available worldwide generally in July 2022, reports ZDNet.

The brief description of Outlook Lite states, “An Android app that brings the core benefits of Outlook in a smaller app size with faster performance for low-end devices on any network.”

Dr. Windows notes that in some countries there is already a lightweight Outlook app available known as “Outlook Lite”. Actually, there are references in various Microsoft docs about the Lite/Lite version of Outlook for Android.

According to a support article, Outlook Lite supports only personal Outlook, Hotmail, Live and MSN accounts, but not work or school accounts.

The new roadmap entry may refer to an updated version of this app or a more widely available version of it. I’ve asked Microsoft about the new Outlook Lite roadmap entry but no word back so far.

Microsoft is currently publicly testing its new “One Outlook” client for Windows. An Outlook/Project Monarch, which looks and feels like Outlook for Web/outlook.com, was designed to integrate the Windows, Web and Mac codebases for Outlook.
