Michael Vaughan trolled for praising India’s women’s win over Australia

The Indian women’s cricket team held their nerves to claim a thrilling two-wicket win against Australia in the third ODI at Mackay, Queensland on Sunday. The Women in Blue lost the limited-overs series 1-2, but they brought smiles to millions of fans as they ended the home team’s historic 26-match winning streak in the 50-over format.

It was also India’s highest successful target so far in ODIs. But most importantly a redemption for the team’s veteran Jhulan Goswami. His remarkable spell (3/37) saw the hosts finish on 264/9 while the visitors escaped a middle-order hiccup, with Goswami finally hitting the winning boundary in the final over to reach 266/8. Sealed and snapped. Australia’s world record ODI winning streak.

Netizens flocked to the social media platform to praise the efforts of the Indian women’s team, however, they were surprised to see former England captain Michael Vaughan also pouring in a line of praise. Vaughan, who likes to rip off Indian cricket and its fans with his statements, took to Twitter to surprise when he retweeted Smriti Mandhana’s post and wrote, “Great win, well done”.

However, the former English cricketer never anticipated trolling, even if it was flirtatious. Several users asked him the reason for his sudden change of heart and were curious to know if he is looking for commentary assignments in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

One user used a popular cartoon meme to mock Vaughan. It shows a hare/rabbit with a pair of binoculars and the poster reads ‘JOB LOOKING’.

Another user, surprised by Vaughan’s praise, wrote, ‘Let me remind you that you are focusing your attention on appreciating the Indian team rather than criticizing them.

“Michael Vaughan is doing his best to be the head coach of Team India,” joked the third.

Another user wrote that the former English cricketer is “praising Indian cricket” as he is “looking for a commentary opportunity in the IPL.”

Meanwhile, 2021 comes to an end with the ODI-leg of the Indian women’s tour of Australia. The two teams will meet in a day-night pink ball Test match at Carrara, Gold Coast, Queensland from 30 September.
