Hollywood star Michael B. Jordan is developing the Black Superman project for streamer HBO Max. According to Collider, Jordan’s Outlier Society production banner is working with the streaming service and has hired a writer to work on the script.

The project is said to be based on the Val-Zod version of the iconic superhero character. However, it is not yet known whether this project is being developed as a film or as a series. According to DC Comics, Val-Zod, who is also from Krypton, is from a different universe, but follows a similar origin story.

After the death of his parents, he is sent away from his home world to Earth and becomes the second person to assume the rank of Superman. Jordan’s Black Superman project is separate from the Warner Bros. reboot film, which is expected to follow a Kal-El/Clark Kent version of the character.

The film will feature a black actor in the lead role. The project stars writer Ta-Nehi Coates as lead author and will be produced by filmmaker JJ Abrams and his company Bad Robot.

Jordan most recently starred in Amazon Prime Video and Paramount Pictures’ “Without Regrets.” The actor will next make his directorial debut with the third installment of his hugely successful “Creed” franchise.
