Michael B Jordan takes on multiple roles in the project as an actor, director, and producer.
Following his successful directorial debut with Creed III, Michael B Jordan is set to helm another project. According to reports, the Black Panther star has signed to direct the upcoming Thomas Crown Affair for Amazon MGM Studios. Jordan, who was previously attached to the project as an actor and producer, will now take over as director. While specific details about the film are still under wraps, the involvement of Jordan suggests that the casting team may be aiming to secure a high-profile lead. The film, produced under Jordan’s Outlier Society banner in collaboration with Elizabeth Raposo, will receive a global theatrical release, according to Deadline.
Outlier Society also has a first-look film deal and an overall TV deal with Amazon MGM.
Jordan’s second directorial Thomas Crown Affair would be the third film in the classic heist franchise. The original 1968 film featured Steve McQueen opposite Faye Dunaway, with Norman Jewison as the director. Later in 1999, the remake came with Pierce Brosnan in the lead alongside Rene Russo.
While plot details remain confidential, it’s reported that Michael B Jordan has taken over the script from Drew Pearce, with earlier drafts by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson based on the 1968 film, according to Variety. Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff will produce the film, with original writer Alan Trustman serving as an executive producer.
Following his recent collaboration with Ryan Coogler, Jordan is poised to expand his role to direct, act, and produce Thomas Crown Affair. His previous directorial effort, Creed III, was a significant box office hit, grossing over $276 million globally.
The plot revolves around a mega-rich, suave Thomas Crown seeks excitement through crime, orchestrating a high-stakes multi-million-dollar heist with his female counterpart while evading a determined detective. The previous films, led by Steve McQueen and Pierce Brosnan, featured dynamic co-stars Faye Dunaway and Rene Russo, infusing a passionate romance into the heist narrative. It remains to be seen how the third film will uphold and evolve this legacy.
