MI vs SRH: Rohit Sharma rues Tim David’s run-out as MI lose tense match vs SRH

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma said he thought his team could beat Sunrisers Hyderabad but Tim David’s run-out at the end of the 18th over dashed their hopes.

Tim David got MI close with a sensational 18-ball 46 which included 4 sixes off T Natarajan. His run-out reduced MI’s chances considerably and Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s wicket-maiden in the penultimate over further took the game away from MI.

Fazalhaq Farooqi bowled the final over of the match with MI still needing 19. Ramandeep Singh hit a 4 off the fourth ball and a 6 off the final ball but SRH completed their victory to stay in the hunt for the playoffs.

“Till about the second to last over, I thought we had it. Unfortunate runout of Tim David.. but we thought we were very much in the game till that runout,” Rohit told Star Sports.

“Even 19 runs to go with two overs, you would back yourself to get that but unfortunately we couldn’t do it. Credit to Sunrisers to hold their nerve. It was a very tense moment and they held their nerve very well at the back end,” Rohit said.

Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 48, his highest score of the season while Ishan Kishan made 43 in a stiff chase. Daniel Sams and Tilak Varma were removed by Umran Malik in a game-changing over.

Mumbai Indians are already out of contention but they would have been pleased with the efforts of Tim David with the bat and Ramandeep Singh (3 for 20) with the ball.

Over the course of the season, MI found a new star in Tilak Varma who has already played some impressive innings. The 19-year-old was also marked down as a potential India player by Rohit Sharma.

Mumbai Indians end their campaign when they take on Delhi Capitals on Saturday.

Rohit Sharma said he wanted to keep it simple for the last match and added that he would like to see his team tick all the boxes.

“For us it’s pretty simple. We just want to tick off the boxes, finish off on a high note if possible. We will try everything we can from our side to put our best foot forward in the last game.

“If there is an opportunity to try out some more guys, we will look to do that too,” he said.
