Meteorological Office issues orange alert for Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir;  Yellow for many North Indian states

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir and a yellow alert for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh with heavy rain for Tuesday.

It said a red alert has been issued for Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra, while an orange alert has been issued for parts of Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Assam.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has four color-coded warnings based on the intensity of the extreme weather event and issues them in ascending order of green, yellow, orange and red.

The IMD said a yellow alert has also been issued for Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, parts of West Bengal and Kerala.

After the resumption of the Southwest Monsoon, many parts of the country received heavy rains on Sunday, while some parts of the country received thunderstorms.

The IMD said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya on Tuesday.

The IMD said that heavy rains are also likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Maharashtra in Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Kerala and Mahe.

On Sunday, flash floods caused by heavy rains washed away buildings and cars at tourist places, as the airport in Himachal Pradesh was closed due to bad weather.

According to the report received on Sunday night, at least 18 people have died in Rajasthan and 10 in Uttar Pradesh and this number could be higher. Six people also died due to lightning in Madhya Pradesh.
