META opens first standalone Asia office in Gurugram with Digital Skilling Hub Gurgaon News – Times of India

GURUGRAM: meta, newly formed parent company Facebookunveiled its new office in the city on Wednesday, which spans 130,000 square feet with a digital skilling hub for small businesses and digital creators.
DLF-2 Workplace, spread over six floors but emphasizing the global tech giant’s startup roots, is its first standalone office facility in Asia, said Meta.
The office, which was inaugurated by Rajiv Chandrashekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, will have the company’s largest team in the country from Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Facebook’s old office located at Two Horizon Center in DLF-5 has been closed.
“The office will be open to anyone who is driving change – be it creators, small business owners, entrepreneurs, artists or community leaders,” said Ajit Mohan, Vice President and Managing Director, Facebook India (META).
“The spaces here will see directed, purposeful efforts from Meta to fuel their discovery, ideas and ambition. That is why we are pursuing the ambitious target of training 1 crore small businesses and 250,000 creators,” Mohan said. He said that India is not only the biggest country for Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, but where in many ways the future of the internet is being shaped.
Earlier this year, the Center announced rules that required major social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp to take extra precautions, including appointment of a chief compliance officer, nodal contact person and resident grievance officer in the country. is required. They will also be required to have a physical contact address in India.
Speaking at the event, Chandrashekhar said that technology is profoundly and almost irreversibly changing the trajectory of the country. “…While there will always be debate about the harm to the user, and the prevalence of all the problems that have arisen because of the expansion of the Internet, we must keep the Internet open, secure and reliable and accountable in all respects and for all Indians.” Pay attention,” he said.
Market analysts said that if the meta is considered, the DLF-II facilities would be the biggest for a new entrant, and cement Delhi-NCR’s position as the largest base for the technology in India after Bengaluru.
“META’s new office indicates a trend where office space absorption is becoming stronger in the north. After Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR has gained a lot of traction in the office market space and this announcement further strengthens it. This is certainly a very encouraging sign for the country and the overall business scenario in the region,” said Sanjay Dutt, MD and CEO, Tata Realty and Infrastructure.
This office also gives the meta strategic advantage of having its base in an area well connected to all parts of the country. “After Mumbai, Delhi-NCR has seen maximum return to office (of employees amid the pandemic). Viral Desai, Executive Director (Transactions), Knight Frank India, said, “The opening of this office reinforces the tendency of office workers to come closer.”
Desai said the momentum will eventually be felt in the residential real estate market as ancillary business activities will pick up as well. “As a thumb rule, every 1,000 sq ft of office space generates demand for around 6-7 residential spaces. The demand for houses for both purchase and rent will increase. Similarly, the automobile sector will see an increase in demand in this segment.”
Meta said the office has an open floor plan and unfinished look of a startup setting, with exposed concrete pillars and wires on the ceiling. The skilling hub has been named ‘Center for Fueling India’s New Economy’.
“The workplace is designed keeping the safety of the employees in mind, which is why we have strict COVID safety protocols as well as various touchless experiences, be it in the cafeteria, lift or washroom. With this objective, we Will continue to offer hybrid options that work for our people and we will evolve our approach depending on the external circumstances,” a spokesperson for Meta told TOI.
