Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has said that proper education and awareness among women is important to control population explosion and no purpose will be served by making laws alone.

UP’s new Population Policy 2021-2030, unveiled on Sunday, states that whoever violates the two-child norm after the commencement of the Act, will be deprived of the benefits of all welfare schemes sponsored by the government. will be deprived, he cannot contest the election. Local bodies will be ineligible to apply for government jobs under state government, cannot get promotion in government jobs, their ration card will be limited to four members, and they will be ineligible to receive any form of government. subsidy.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that all necessary efforts should be made for population stabilization along with awareness and better health facilities. He said that while framing the new population policy, efforts should be made to bring down the maternal and child mortality rate to the minimum level through maintaining the demographic balance in all communities, easy availability of advanced health facilities and proper nutrition.

The objectives of the new policy should be embedded in the spirit of the Sustainable Development Goals. In this, targets have been set on different parameters in two phases for 2026 and 2030.

Apart from UP, the Assam government may bring a new two-child law to make it widely implemented during next month’s budget session of the state assembly. Official sources have said that the law may make people with only two children eligible for government jobs and welfare schemes.

Sambhal Samajwadi Party MLA Iqbal Mahmood has termed this law as a conspiracy against Muslims. “This is actually an attack on Muslims under the guise of population control,” Mahmood told PTI. The law also affects remarriage of widowed or separated women, discouraging childbearing for pre-married women that may affect their socio-economic status and prospects of remarriage.
