Meiteis in Mizoram ‘under threat,’ forced to leave homes; Manipur govt to arrange flights

Aizawl: violence in Manipur caused trouble for Meitei The community, living in the neighboring state of Mizoram, forces them to leave their homes here for the safety of their lives.

With the recent announcement of a group of ex-militants in Mizoram, the Manipur government decided to airlift people from the Meitei community from the state capital Aizawl. The Meitei are one of the tribes in Manipur engaged in an ongoing caste ‘war’ since May this year.

PAMRA (Peace Accord MNF Returnees Association) issued a statement warning about the potential threat to their lives in response to sexual violence against two women who were paraded naked (Manipur Women’s Parade) in Kangpokpi district of Manipur.

“There are apprehensions of a possible development of tension due to public outrage against the recent viral video of two tribal Kuki-zo being brutally attacked in Manipur, which could jeopardize the safety of the Meitei people living in Aizawl. Security arrangements have been made in Aizawl to ensure the safety of Meitei,” read the letter.
