Sangma cast his vote at Walbakgre Government LP School in Tura during the second phase of polling today and said the voter turnout towards NPP is very positive.

Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) supremo Conrad Sangma expressed confidence in winning the upcoming state assembly elections and dismissed the Trinamool Congress as a challenger.

Sangma cast his vote at Walbakgrey Government LP School in Tura today and said the voter turnout towards NPP is very positive.

talking to cnn-news18he said, “The voter’s mode is very positive for NPP and we are confident, it will be in our favor. Last five years have been quite challenging. But we have faced it and tackled all the major issues of the state. Assam -Major issues like Meghalaya border are being resolved. Issues related to militancy and what kind of disturbances the state had brought down. Despite all the challenges, we were able to give strong economic stimulus to the state. We have seen that people are talking about us. I am very positive. We are hopeful”.

The counting of votes will take place on March 2.

Sangma said the post-poll alliance would be decided only after the results. He further said that PM Narendra Modi’s visit will not affect people’s support for NPP.

“Modi is the Prime Minister of the country. It is very normal that the people of the state would be excited to see him. But only the local party can solve the issues of the local people. Also all parties in Meghalaya, even those that had formed post-poll alliances earlier, have contested alone. That’s why there is a political war of words. Like what is happening between BJP-NPP. Nothing to worry about. ,

Commenting on TMC and Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma, the CM said, ‘We never take any of our opponents lightly. But TMC is already broken. Now it will take time for them to reach the grassroots level.”

He also said that the way TMC heads Mamata Banerjee There is talk in West Bengal, NPP should be the ruling party in Meghalaya.

The Garo Hills hold 24 of the 60 seats in Meghalaya. Eight out of twelve Chief Ministers have been from this region. Konrad Sangma, Mukul Sangma and Bernard Marak are all from Garo Hills.
