Taruni Pandey wanted to appear for UPSC Prelims in 2020 but could not do so due to COVID-19 infection just four days before the exam.

Taruni Pandey, age 32, was born and brought up in Chittaranjan, West Bengal and completed her education in Jamtara, Jharkhand. He did his graduation and master’s in English Literature from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

Ever since she was in the third standard, Taruni had cherished the childhood dream of becoming a doctor. His career ambitions remained steadfast through the years. Despite initially pursuing an MBBS degree, Taruni had to leave her studies in the second year due to health problems. However, she was determined to find other avenues and was preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

After the demise of her brother-in-law, Taruni had to accompany her sister to various government offices where she interacted with many bureaucrats and politicians. Meanwhile, Taruni got a new identity in her life. This experience inspired him and made him realize that an individual within the system can have a transformative power.

Taruni Pandey wanted to appear for UPSC Prelims in 2020. However, his plans were disrupted when he contracted COVID-19 four days before the exam. Undaunted, she appeared for the exam in 2021, fully aware that it would be her last attempt as she was nearing the age limit for general category candidates.

He secured an impressive 14th rank in the UPSC CSE exam in 2021. Taruni achieved this remarkable success in UPSC without any coaching. Instead, she relied on self-prepared study material and used online platforms like YouTube to prepare for her exams.

Despite having only four months to prepare for UPSC Prelims, Taruni devised a smart strategy to crack the Civil Services Exam. Instead of solely relying on textbooks, she used to watch YouTube videos to make her study notes.
