Sanjeev Raina was first posted at the Indo-China Border Area.
Sanjeev Rainae revealed that he joined the ITBP as an Assistant Commandant in November of 1987.

Such is the story of Sanjeev Raina, an ITBP (Indo Tibetan Border Police) officer, who was appointed the ADG (Additional Director General) for the India-China LAC (Line of Actual Control) Security Force. As per reports, he is only the second non-IPS officer to be appointed to this post. In a conversation with News18 Hindi, he revealed that he joined the ITBP as an Assistant Commandant, in November of 1987. It was followed by his training at the ITBP Academy, Mussoorie. When he completed a year in training, he got his first posting at the Indo-China Border Area, in Ladakh. Then he was given the post of Deputy Commandant. He went on to hold the positions of Second in Command, Commandant of Battalion Command, DIG (Deputy Inspector General), SDIG and IG (Inspector General).
Sanjeev originally belonged from Jammu and Kashmir; but during the time of migration, he shifted to Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. In Gwalior, he completed his higher studies from the Jiwaji University, acquiring his graduate as well as post-graduate degrees in Economics.
The officer’s elevation to ADG from an Inspector General was announced through a directive issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, for the panel year 2024. Along with him, another officer IG Jaspal Singh was also named for the promotion. At the moment, Sanjeev is stationed at ITBP’s central sector in Bhopal. He will start his new post at the Western Command, which has headquarters in Chandigarh.
According to more information, the officer was given the responsibility to lay the foundation of Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS), which he fulfilled dutifully. The school gives training to those officers who are about to be deployed to a Naxal-affected area. Officers belonging to various forces across the country are also given training here. It is located in Mahidanda, Uttarkashi, in Uttarakhand. The soldiers should be 35 years of age, while the officers should be 40 years.
