Gaurav failed in a subject a year back during the last semester of his graduation degree.

Every year lakhs of students appear for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam, which is one of the toughest exams in India. Generally, candidates feel that it is necessary to prepare for at least one year to crack any exam successfully for a government job. IAS Gaurav Agarwal, however, is a different matter. The officer not only cleared the UPSC exam but also became the first person from Rajasthan to do so.

It didn’t stop here, Gaurav also cleared JEE Advanced and CAT which are the toughest exams for engineering and MBA. Let’s look at the journey of IPS Gaurav Agarwal. He completed his schooling in Jaipur. Then he cracked IIT JEE in 2001 at the age of 16 and secured All India Rank 45. He graduated from IIT Kanpur, but his degree was extended for the second semester.

During the last semester of his bachelor’s degree, Gaurav failed in a subject due to which he fell behind by a year. However, this did not deter the IAS officer’s confidence and he achieved success with his hard work. Meanwhile, he also cleared CAT in 2005, which is considered to be the toughest exam for MBA in India, at the age of 21. He secured 99.94 percent marks in the examination. Gaurav has done his post graduation in Finance from IIM Lucknow. He was the gold medalist of his batch.

He worked as an investment banker in Citigroup in Hong Kong for about 3.5 years before deciding to quit his Rs 1.25 crore job and clear UPSC.

According to a PTI report, Gaurav’s first attempt at the UPSC exam was in the year 2012. That year, he secured 244 rank and got selected as an IPS officer. Gaurav was doing his training at the Police Academy in Hyderabad but his intentions were very clear to become an IAS officer.

Gaurav got married to Dr. Preeti Airun just four days after the interview for UPSC exam. His family and wife supported him throughout this journey.

In his second attempt in 2013, Gaurav again cleared the exam with good marks and became the first person from his home state to get AIR 1 in the exam.
