Akash Chavda, who hails from Jamnagar, Gujarat, was just three years old when his mother passed away. His father used to work in a Gulf country.
Every year, a lot of aspirants appear for the UPSC CSE exam from across the country. This competitive examination acts as a gateway for those seeking to become civil servants. While many aspirants attend coaching sessions to improve their UPSC preparation, some are unable to pay the expensive fees for the coaching schools yet manage to crack India’s toughest exam. Recently, one such inspiring story has gone viral, garnering everyone’s attention.
Akash Chavda, who hails from Jamnagar, Gujarat, was just three years old when his mother passed away. His father used to work in a Gulf country. He could not quit his job and come to take care of his son. Neither was he in a situation where he could take his son along. So, he had to make the challenging choice of sending his four-year-old son to a hostel.
Akash started to live his life alone at the age of four. His father rarely came to see him. But worse things were yet to happen to him. One day, at the age of 13, he came to know that his father had also passed away. At that time, Akash was studying in the ninth grade. Then, he started thinking that he would spend his entire life like an orphan in this hostel. But during this time, his cousin, who worked as a mason, extended a helping hand and took him home. He backed Akash for his schooling and graduation.
In an interview, Akash said that his cousins were everything for him. “They taught me, gave me a home, and raised me like their own child,” he said. Akash took an engineering degree after schooling at a Gujarati-medium school.
He started preparing for the UPSC CSE while living in a two-room house. He took the UPSC exam for the first time in the year 2019. He cleared the prelims on the first attempt but could not crack the mains. He felt very disappointed and left UPSC and started preparing for Gujarat PCS. However, he failed here too. He failed twice in a row in the years 2020 and 2021.
After continuous failures, Akash thought of a new plan and appeared for the UPSC Group C exam. Finally, in 2022, he passed and became a State Tax Inspector. Now that he had a job in his hands, he once again started thinking about UPSC. Akash Chavda appeared for the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023 with full preparation. This time, he passed the UPSC with an All-India rank of 1,007.
