MCD polls: SAD anounces to support party which works for release of Sikh prisoners | Ludhiana News – Times of India

JALANDHAR: For the upcoming Delhi Municipal Corporation elections, Shiromani Akali Dal will has announced that it would support the party pledging to work relentlessly for the release of Bandi Singhs (Sikh prisoners).
“After deliberations at our SAD meeting on Wednesday, we have decided to keep the Bandi Singhs over and above immediate power game of electoral politics. Our party will stand beside those who promise to work with utmost commitment for the release of Bandi Singhs,” said SAD Delhi unit chief Paramjit Singh Sarna.
Sarna noted that the entire Sikh community watched how all the seven convicts in none other than the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case walked free after 30 years in prison this year, six of them earlier this month.
“If the state power yielded before Tamil sentiments, there’s no reason it shouldn’t before Sikh sentiments about the Bandi Singhs. We need to fine-tune our strategy in order to secure honourable release of Sikh prisoners. We need to make everybody realize how valuable our support is. If anyone wants it, then commit to securing the release of Bandi Singhs,” Sarna argued.
He pointed out that Delhi was home to the largest population of Sikhs in any metro city across India. “We shall appeal to Sikh voters to cast their valuable vote in Delhi to those who formally declare to work for the cause of the Bandi Singhs,” he added.
