Following his impressive show during his T20I debut series against Bangladesh, India’s pace-sensation was not able to make the squad for the upcoming T20I series scheduled from November 8-15, due to injury.

According to a report by IANS, Yadav who picked up four wickets during the Bangladesh series, is likely going to be sidelined for a couple of months due to a back issue. The pacer is currently at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

“He’s back here for another problem, which might keep him out for two to three months. Mostly it’s something related to the back, but there’s not much clarity into it. But then, it’s also something which is believed to keep him out for a considerable amount of time,” said a source which was quoted as saying in the report.

“The way with which he came here, the first feelers from it are giving a look of him being out for two to three months initially and maybe, it could be more,” the source added.

Mayank represents Delhi in domestic cricket and was part of the famous Sonnet Cricket Club where he underwent rehab and also worked on regaining match fitness at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence as well following the abdominal strain he sustained, playing for the Lucknow Super Giants in the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In the franchise-based tournament, Mayank stunned fans and former players alike with his 150+ kph spells which were bowled with really impressive accuracy while also being amongst the wickets.

He missed IPL 2023 for LSG due to a torn hamstring injury sustained in a practice session ahead of the tournament and had to miss the 2023/24 Ranji Trophy entirely because of another injury, for which he underwent rehabilitation in Mumbai.

With the IPL retention deadline coming on October 31, Mayank is a strong contender to be one of the five players retained by LSG, who acquired him for INR 20 lakhs in the auction before the 2022 season.

He caught the attention of the franchise when their then assistant coach, Vijay Dahiya, observed him prior to the Delhi-Haryana match in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at Sector 16 Stadium in Chandigarh in December 2021.
