Surat: A major fire broke out on Sunday at the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) manufacturing unit of a healthcare company at GIDC Estate in Panoli, Bharuch.
Fire officials said that some chemical reactions in the unit caused the fire after the explosion.
Shortly after the explosion, flames engulfed the entire unit. “Dense clouds of smoke rising from the fire were visible from several kilometers away. Apart from fire brigade vehicles from Panoli and neighboring companies, fire teams from Ankleshwar and Disaster Prevention and Management Center were also pressed into action,” said a fire official.
“The unit was stocked with isopropyl alcohol due to which the entire unit caught fire. It took several hours to get the fire under control. Later, we started rescue activities to cool the structure,” he said.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident as the personnel reached on time.
Even before this, many big fires have taken place in the industrial area of the district. Bharuch District, raising questions on fire safety measures by the units.
