Masoom: Boman Irani’s physiological thriller chronicles a daughter’s quest for truth in a web of lies

After dropping the first poster of the new web show Masoom, Disney+Hotstar has released the intriguing trailer of its upcoming psychological thriller. The series will unveil the untold truths that haunt the life of the Kapoor family, where the dynamics of a complex relationship change with time and ambition. The six-episode series slated to release on June 17, 2022, marks the digital debut of Boman Irani and rising star Samara Tijori, showing another side of the coin of a complicated father-daughter relationship.

The makers released the trailer of Masoom on Instagram with the caption, “A family, a secret from the past and shattered innocence – one person’s truth is never easy.”

The one-minute-fourteen-second trailer, set in Phalauli, Punjab, follows a daughter’s quest to find out the truth behind her mother’s demise. When 21-year-old Sana Kapoor learns of the mysterious death of her bed-ridden mother, she immediately decides to move to her separate family in Punjab. However, upon her arrival, she is greeted by restlessness as her father, brother and extended family hide secrets that fuel her suspicions. Once his most beloved child, Sana and his father now have a love-hate relationship as he demands that she leave the house as soon as the rituals are over to stop him from digging up dirt in the family. Will Sana ever know the story behind her mother’s death?

Helmed by Mihir Desai with showrunner Gurit Singh, Masoom is an Indian rendition of the award-winning Irish series Blood, which explores family ties and deceit after losing a loved one. The main cast will include Manjari Phadnis, Veer Rajwant Singh, Upasana Singh, and Manurshi Chaddha, among others. The series also features a soulful soundtrack composed by the renowned Anand Bhaskar Collective.

Speaking about his digital debut with the show, Boman Irani said, “I made my long-awaited digital debut on Disney+ Hotstar with Masoom, which has been making some of my favorite series this year. The series is a window that opens up a new world for me and helps me reach out to a wider audience. It was quite challenging for my reel life daughter Samara to play the father role as it was intense and gritty. It has been a fascinating act with new talent like Samara and the extremely talented crew. I had the pleasure of watching a young actor hone his craft and in a way it helped me grow as well.”

Actress Samara Tijori while talking about her character in the show said, “In Masoom, I play the role of a young girl who is on a quest to uncover the truth when everyone around her is buried. Want to leave. It was a great learning experience to play this role with a seasoned actor like Boman Irani as my on-screen father. Overall, working with a cast and crew who had so much experience , I grew as an artist and a person. I really hope the audience enjoys the thrill and the rush that the story takes you through.”

Director Mihir Desai said, “The story of Masoom begins when the entire family tries to hide a daughter to know the truth.
