While Deadpool & Wolverine has been rated R for its violence and language, Kevin Feige described the MCU film as the wholesome adult movie.

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) forever, as the studio prepares to deliver its first ever R-rated film. Starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, this bold move indicates a shift in tone from its traditional family friendly content to explore mature themes. Talking about the shift, Marvel president Kevin Feige claims he remained cautious about maintaining the essence of the Deadpool franchise. In an interview with Deadline, Feige claimed that he just wanted to honour Reynolds’ original vision. Although the film has been rated R for its violence, language and adult references, Feige described the upcoming MCU film as the “most wholesome R-rated movie” viewers could experience.

Speaking to the portal, the Marvel boss explained, “This is our first R-rated movie, but it is the third R-rated Deadpool movie, so we wanted to stay true to what Ryan has built over those last couple of movies and we weren’t going to undo that. I will say, Hugh and Ryan have talked about this, and I think people can tell from the trailer and from the press tour so far, yes, it’s R-rated, yes there’s some language and blood, but the film is incredibly emotional. I keep calling it the most wholesome R-rated film that anybody can ever see.”

“It really is a celebration of friendship and family and of found family. I don’t want to overdo it, but for all the R-rated raunchiness that gets attention, when people see the movie, it’s going to be about how heartfelt it is, in my opinion, much more than the first two Deadpool films. That’s what I’m really excited about, once people get past the F words and the R-rating, to see how sweet it is,” Kevin Feige added.

Deadpool & Wolverine picks up six years after the events of Deadpool 2. Wade Wilson retires from his superhero life and his relationship with Vanessa ends. However, when agents from the Time Variance Authority (TVA) take him to their boss, Mr Paradox, during his birthday celebration, Wade is given a life changing opportunity. This sets the stage for an epic multiverse adventure with Wolverine, as they team up to fight against Cassandra Nova.

Other than Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the Shawn Levy directorial stars, Emma Corrin, Matthew Macfadyen, Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Stefan Kapicic, Aaron Stanford, Brianna Hildebrand, Tyler Mane, Rob Delaney, Lewis Tan, Jason Flemyng, Kelly Hu and Ray Park. The movie is scheduled to release on July 26.
