Maruti recalls 1.8 lakh cars sold from 2018 to 2020 for faulty unit – Times of India

New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki released 1.8 on Friday. announced the recall of Lakh Cars were sold between May 4, 2018 and October 27, 2020, to replace a faulty motor generator unit.
The cars being recalled are Ciaz sedans, Ertiga utility vehicles, and some petrol variants of SUVs Vitara Breeze, Cross and XL6.
Maruti said that the work of replacing the affected part would start from the first week of November. “Till then, customers are requested to avoid driving in water-logged areas and spray water directly on the electrical/electronic parts in the vehicle.”

The company said that replacement of defective parts will be done free of cost and customers will receive a communication from the dealership regarding this exercise.
“Recall campaigns are being conducted globally to rectify defects that could be potential safety defects. In the interest of customers, Maruti has decided to voluntarily recall the affected vehicles for inspection/replacement of Motor Generator Unit Affected vehicle owners will receive a communication from Maruti authorized workshops,” the company said.

While earlier this was voluntary, the government has now declared the recall mandatory for automakers if they spot defects that are common in nature. Penalties have also been prescribed in relation to the practice.
Earlier, there used to be instances where auto companies avoided rectifying generic defects for fear of impact on branding.
