Markets fall on the sixth day; Sensex 425 points, Nifty 15,250 . below from

Equity indices opened trade on a muted note with the Sensex falling 425 points in early trade on Friday, in line with concerns over weak global markets and unabated foreign capital outflow.

The BSE benchmark was trading 425.11 points lower at 51,070.68. Nifty closed 125.7 points lower at 15,234.90.

From the Sensex pack, Asian Paints, Wipro, Dr Reddy’s, Titan, TCS, Tech Mahindra, Sun Pharma and Maruti were the biggest laggards. On the other hand, Reliance Industries and NTPC gained.

In Asia, markets in Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai were trading lower, while Hong Kong traded higher. Stock exchanges in the US closed with a sharp fall on Thursday.

The BSE benchmark closed 1,045.60 points or 1.99 per cent lower at 51,495.79 on Thursday. Similarly, the NSE Nifty closed 331.55 points or 2.11 per cent lower at 15,360.60.

VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services, said, “The major themes affecting equity markets globally are global monetary tightening and fears of an economic slowdown.”

Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude fell 0.68 per cent to $118.98 a barrel.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers in the capital market as they sold shares worth Rs 3,257.65 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data.
