Mark Wahlberg, who moved to Las Vegas with his wife Rhea Durham and their four kids in 2022, had been eagerly anticipating the ribbon-cutting event.
Mark Wahlberg’s new Las Vegas-based Mexican restaurant, Flecha Cantina, narrowly avoided a disaster after a fire broke out on its patio just one day before its highly anticipated ribbon-cutting ceremony. The fire, which took place on the evening of November 6, was reportedly caused by a “defective fire pit” on the restaurant’s outdoor patio. A spokesperson for the restaurant confirmed the incident, stating that the fire ignited from the bottom of the fire pit but was quickly put out by fire crews.
“The fire crew came and put it out right away,” the spokesperson told PEOPLE. “No damage at all in the interior restaurant. The only damage was to the fire pit and the chair next to it. Thankfully, no one was injured.” Video footage of the fire, which showed flames engulfing the fire pit area, was shared on social media platform X by @LasVegasLocally.
The fire broke out around 5:30 pm local time, prompting the Clark County Fire Department to respond to the scene. According to a press release obtained by PEOPLE, by the time the fire department arrived, sprinklers had been activated, and the restaurant had been evacuated. Fortunately, the fire was contained to the patio area, and the interior of the restaurant remained unharmed.
Flecha Cantina, which opened its doors on September 14, has already made a mark in the Las Vegas dining scene. Wahlberg, who moved to Las Vegas with his wife Rhea Durham and their four children in 2022, had been eagerly anticipating the ribbon-cutting event scheduled for November 7. Despite the fire, the event will continue as planned, confirming that the restaurant is still on track for its grand celebrations.
Wahlberg’s move to Las Vegas has been a strategic decision, as it allows him and his family the freedom and space to pursue their personal and professional goals. Speaking to PEOPLE in March, he shared how the move gave his children the opportunity to thrive and pursue their dreams, whether it be his daughter’s equestrian aspirations, his son’s basketball ambitions, or his younger son’s love for golf.
