Director Mari Selvaraj is currently in the headlines for his Tamil film Vaazhai which was released today at the cinemas and opened to positive reviews from the audience. Apart from the audience, the film also appealed to the director Bala. The filmmaker Mari shared a video on Instagram regarding his and Bala’s interaction post watching Vaazhai. The video shows Bala approaching Mari and then embracing him. He embraces the Vaazhai director for a few seconds and then kisses him on the cheek. Both filmmakers then shook hands and sat quietly while having a discussion. Mari wrote the caption in Tamil which translates to,” Kiss❤️”. #Vaazhai Tomorrow.”

Till now, Mari has directed 3 films, i.e-Pariyerum Perumal, Karnan, and Maamannan. All these films were successful at the box office. However, the 40-year-old director finds Vaazhai special. In an interview with The Hindu, the Tamil director said,” Despite doing three films, a film like Vaazhai makes me proud and glad about my talent as a filmmaker.” He also talked about how if a director wants to test their acumen, they should do a children’s film. According to the 40-year-old director, “The children today are sharp and the inputs given to them are the same as what I usually do with other actors. But the words and attitude I use differ; even the storytelling differs.”
Upcoming projects
On the professional front, Mari is looking forward to his upcoming film Bison: Kaalamaadan. There were rumours that the film is a biopic, but Mari denied the same in an interview with the Times of India. The 40-year-old director stated that this film will revolve around kabaddi, but contrary to reports, it is not a biopic but a fictional one. According to Vaazhai’s director, he and his team will shoot a 60-day schedule here and move to Chennai for the remaining portions.
Projects as a writer
Mari is also a writer and has written Marakkave Ninaikkiren, a series in Tamil Magazine Ananda Vikatan.
He also penned a short stories collection Thamirabaraniyil Kollapadathavargal, published in 2013 by Vamsi Pathipagam.
