Giridih: Maoists blew up a mobile phone tower and torched another Jharkhand‘s Giridih district, police said in the early hours of Saturday.
The events marked the first day of “protest week” being observed by the Maoists to protest the arrest of their top leader. Prashant Bose, said a police officer.

Dumri Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Manoj Kumar said that it is learned that two Maoists reached the spot on a motorcycle and set the tower on fire.
The Maoists blew up the Idea Tower at around 1 am in Madhuban, a pilgrimage site for Jains, he said.
“Maoists are indulging in such violence out of desperation as they have lost their base,” Kumar said.
The anti-Maoist operation has been intensified in the area following the incident, the official said.
Jharkhand Police had in November confirmed that Prashant Bose alias Kishan Da was arrested along with his wife Sheela Marandi in Jharkhand for a reward of Rs 1 crore.
According to the police, CPI (Maoist) Eastern Regional Bureau secretary Bose was in charge of Maoist activities in several states including Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
The Maoists are observing “Protest Week” to protest his arrest. He has also called for a bandh in Bihar and Jharkhand on January 27.
