Manoj Kumar completes 49 years of iconic film Shor

National Award winning veteran actor Manoj Kumar on Wednesday got emotional while remembering his cult classic ‘Shor’, which completed 49 years in Indian cinema. Sharing the picture that shows Kumar with Jaya as Rani and Prem Nath as Khan Badshah – Rani’s father, he wrote “49 years unmatched #49 years ago “#SHOR” on this day.

‘Shor’ gave Indian cinema two of the most iconic songs – ‘Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai’ sung by Lata Mangeshkar and ‘Pani Re Pani’ by Mukesh and Lata.

The 1972 romantic drama revolves around the story of Shankar (Kumar), who attempts to hear the voice of his son, who is speechless, and raises money for his operation. However, right after his son’s operation, Shankar loses his hearing in a factory accident. The film was written, produced and directed by Manoj Kumar, who also played the lead role in the film.

The film was remade in Tamil as ‘Osai’. Shor, released on 15 September 1972, was critically acclaimed and won the Filmfare Award for Best Editing. Legendary composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal – Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma and Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar – composed the music for the film, which certainly proved to be an asset to it. Actors Kamini Kaushal, Manorama, Madan Puri and Asrani also played lead roles in the film.
