Sridevi and Manish Malhotra
Designer Manish Malhotra remembered legendary icon Sridevi and said that when the actress took a hiatus of 15 years she had a lump in her throat.
Friday marks the 58th birth anniversary of late veteran actress Sridevi. On his birth anniversary, many Bollywood Celebrities took to social media to remember him. Designer Manish Malhotra, who was a close friend and frequent collaborator of the actress, recalled her in a recent interview. She talked about her experience working with her and how she felt when she told him she was going to stop working. In 1997, the actress took a fifteen-year break from acting, returning with the 2012 film English Vinglish.
Talking to The Indian Express, Manish said, “It was the last day of shooting for Judaai in Las Vegas. I still remember that we were coming down the elevator. She told me ‘I don’t plan to work anymore’. I had a lump in my throat. And I kept wondering why I felt that way. It means that somewhere I have really connected with him. I think I connected to his professionalism with the way he respected him. He never talked about anyone. I think I had a great time with it. She was focused, hardworking. We never gossiped about anyone. It was always about work.”
He also talked about his daughters Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor. He said that he has retained many of the qualities of his mother. He said that he should remember her everyday as she was a loving mother and friend to him. He further added that he is coping well with the loss of Sridevi and knows how to be a professional. He said that his relationship with Sridevi extends to his daughters and hence it will always remain the same.
The iconic actress began her career in 1967 at the age of four, and made her Hindi debut with the 1975 film Julie. She was known for films like Mr India, Nagina, English Vinglish, Chaalbaaz, Chandni and Judaai.
