Voting is underway for 38 seats in the first phase of Manipur Assembly elections. The voter turnout till 9 am is 8.94%. CM said, I hope 75% people of my constituency will vote for BJP and me. In the first phase, BJP will win 30 out of 38 seats.

In the first phase, polling is being held in five districts of Manipur – Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi, and Churachandpur. A total of 173 candidates are in the fray in the first phase, including 15 women candidates. With the Corona guidelines, the voting started from 7 am and will continue till 4 pm, after 3 pm, corona patients will vote.

The fate of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, his cabinet colleague Thongam Biswajit Singh, Assembly Speaker Y Khemchand Singh, Deputy CM Yumnam Joykumar and Congress state president N Lokesh are also to be decided in this phase. Voting for the second phase in the state will be held on March 5, with the counting of votes on March 10.

If we talk about the last assembly elections, in 2017 BJP got only 21 seats out of 60. At the same time, Congress had captured 28 seats in the state. Even after this, the Congress could not form the government in Manipur. Many Congress MLAs joined the BJP. At the same time, BJP formed the government with the support of National People’s Party (NPP) and some independent MLAs and N Birender Singh became the Chief Minister of the state. At present, the Congress has only 13 MLAs left in Manipur. To get a majority in the state, any party has to win 31 seats.

Congress did not open account in Lok Sabha elections
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, when the BJP won a majority and formed the government at the Center, one seat of Manipur was also included in it. In the general elections, the BJP captured one of the two seats in the state. While the remaining one seat went to the National People’s Front (NPF). The Congress, which won 28 seats in the 2017 assembly elections, could not win a single seat.

Five out of 60 seats in Manipur are in the Red Alert Zone. These include Kairao, Lamalai and Andro in Imphal East, Khangabok and Thoubal seats in Thoubal. Three or more candidates in these seats have criminal background.
