Manipal student creates awareness on detecting fake reviews online. Mangaluru News – Times of India

Second year computer science engineering student from Manipal Manipal Institute of Technology (With), is on a mission to spread awareness about fake reviews and ratings, and ways that will help people get their money’s worth when shopping online, especially during the pandemic.
As a first step, Aryan Khemka Wrote and published an eBook titled ‘Shop Like a Pro’. Aryan Said, “It all started last year during the lockdown. I was looking for ways to utilize the time and learn new skills. I decided for a digital product that would also help in sharing information to a larger audience. I released the e-book last week,” he said.
Aryan observed that during the lockdown phase, many newcomers started using online platforms to shop for their daily needs. This was also a period where people were going through difficult economic conditions. “When you charge more for products or services online, it increases the financial burden on the whole family. Knowing the right ways to save and avoid incurring extra expenses will be of great help, especially for a student,” he said.
“One of the important factors that help us decide what to buy are reviews and ratings. However, some sellers have come up with different ways to increase their ratings. They sometimes offer free gifts or rewards in exchange for good ratings, or even buy paid reviews in bulk from third party services. I am sharing information about online extensions that will help spot fake reviews, as well as how to check discounts and best price tracking tools and websites specifically for students.” Aryan said.
Apart from this, a video is also being made which will be uploaded on YouTube soon. At the college level, that student shares informative posts on Instagram pages and various online platforms with nearly 20,000 followers. Aryan said, “My goal is to spread awareness on broad topics like cyber security, fake news and cyber crime, so that people can use the internet properly in a safe environment.”
