New Delhi: Former Tripura Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader Maniki Sarkar on Tuesday alleged that he was prevented from visiting the state and his constituency several times by the ruling BJP
This comes days after the CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury wrote to the prime minister Narendra Modi Alleged violence against Left activists by the BJP in the state.
Sarkar served as the Chief Minister of Tripura from 1998 to 2018.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Yechury and the government targeted the BJP over the violence in Tripura.
“In Tripura, the Constitution of India does not work. CPI(M) MLAs, including me, are not allowed to visit my constituency. In the 42 months since the BJP came to power, I have been prevented from visiting the state 15 times.” different parts and my constituency,” the government alleged.
Both the Left leaders claimed that there was “huge discontent” against the BJP government in Tripura.
“The CPI(M) is leading the efforts to intensify the protest of the people. They (BJP) do not want to allow this process and are resorting to violence?” Yechury alleged.
A few days ago, in his letter to the Prime Minister, the CPI(M) general secretary had alleged that the party’s offices in Tripura were attacked by a “mob of BJP men” in a “pre-planned manner” on 8 September.
In the letter, Yechury has alleged that the “impunity” with which the attackers acted shows “complicity of the state government”.
