Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan’s first look poster gets scathing response from fans

The first look poster of Mani Ratnam’s much-awaited Tamil film Ponniyin Selvan was released on March 2. The film is based on the Tamil historical novel of the same name by B Kalki Krishnamurthy. Produced by Lyca Productions in association with Madras Talkies, the film has music composed by AR Rahman. However, Tamil film lovers have not received the first look of the film well. Many netizens are criticizing the poster of Mani Ratnam’s most ambitious project.

The first look of all the cast of the film has been released by the makers of the period drama. Pictures of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Karthi, Jayam Ravi and Trisha have been released on social media by the production house. Fans who saw these posters are criticizing Vikram’s ‘too photoshopped’ appearance in a poster. Another poster, which shows Trisha in a position surrounded by other women, is depicted worshiping a fair-skinned woman, who is apparently being worshiped by dark-skinned women.

Aishwarya Rai was also not spared from the barrage of criticism directed at the film. Her appearance was criticized for being similar in appearance to the heroines in the films of the North Indian period. Karthi’s appearance was not liked by fans for reminding him of his previous film Kashmora.

The film stars Karthi, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Prakash Raj, Trisha, Aishwarya Lakshmi and Vikram Prabhu in pivotal roles. The first part of the epic Ponniyin Selvan is based on the 10th century power struggle between the successors of the Chola dynasty.

The story is a melting pot of adventure and harsh politics, with cunning spies, warriors and conspirators all trying to conquer the Chola Empire. Undoubtedly, a film based on this epic will be much awaited. The film will be released in cinemas on 30 September.
