MANGALURU: A man of about 30 to 35 years entered the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) campus next to the district jail between 12.45 and 1.15 pm and allegedly attacked three female employees The members scrambled on Monday.
He allegedly entered the campus demanding a teacher and said that he had brought a gift for her.
The staff present there could not ascertain from whom he was asking. After this, he attacked the employees present there with a sharp weapon.
Three women, including a first divisional assistant, a stenographer and a Group D worker, sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at private hospitals.
The injured have been identified as Reena, Gunavati and Nirmala.
City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar along with a team of officials and Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat CEO Kumar visited the game soon after the incident was reported.
The commissioner told reporters that the cause of the incident was yet to be ascertained. “We have also met injured staff members who are being treated in private hospitals.”
One of them suffered a head injury and two others sustained injuries on the face, back and hands, but are out of danger.
“After hearing the cries of the women, the jail staff, police and public rushed to rescue them. The accused has been taken into custody and is being interrogated,” he said.
Barke police station officials are investigating the matter.
