Mangaluru: Ex-MLA says 90% of the 600 members of ward committee are from BJP. Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: List of Draft Ward Committees published by Mangaluru Municipal Corporation (MCC) on Monday came under attack by the Dakshina Kannada District Congress, which accused the corporation commissioner of bowing to the wishes of the ruling BJP.
the former MLA JR Lobo, who was also a bureaucrat, on Wednesday ridiculed the draft, alleging that the list made it look like the commissioner was assigned to the BJP’s 60 ward committees, covering 90% of the individuals in the 600 ward committees.
“This is against the provisions of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act 2011,” he claimed and accused the local MLA of pressurizing the commissioner.
The MCC had received over 1,200 applications from citizens for ward committees to be formed in 60 wards.
Lobo questioned the commissioner as to why around 600 applications were rejected without assigning any reason and thus defeating the principles of natural justice.
“This also applies to Congress party workers who are in committees. Even an NGO with political affiliation has been included in it. ward committee, which is a gross violation of the rules,” he said.
MCC commissioner Akshay Sridhar had on Monday said that citizens can register their objections and complaints by addressing list officers at zonal offices and central office or emailing similar concerns at mccwardcommittee@gmail.com within a period of 15 days. Huh. But Lobo said the commissioner did not exercise due diligence as the committees should not have members with political affiliations.
the former MLA Mohiuddin Bavas And former mayor Mahabala Marla said the committees are for the development of a ward and not for further political goals.
Lobo said the commissioner can still act and there is no need to wait for objections to remove ward committee members with political affiliations.
He said that depending on what happens in the next few days, the Congress party will think about the future course of action.
