The autorickshaw blast in Mangaluru left two people injured, including a terror suspect and the auto driver.
After Karnataka Police concluded that the blast that happened inside a moving autorickshaw was an act of terror, Tamil Nadu police arrived in Mysuru to find a connection between the blast that killed a man in Coimbatore on October 3 and the one that happened in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district.
The officers are camping in Mysuru. They visited the rented room of the terror suspect in Lokanayaka Nagar in Metagalli police limits. They verified the seized materials including batteries, a timer PCB board, and nuts and bolts, from the rented room.
Relatives houses searched
Meanwhile, Karnataka police raided the houses of relatives of the prime accused in Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district early on Monday.
Four houses were raided by local police along with the NIA team. Searches were conducted to find any terror connection. So far, no arrests have been made, according to sources.
If sources are to be believed, it is now certain that Mohammed Shareeq, who is accused of having links with Al-Qaeda, is involved in the Mangaluru case.
Shareeq was on the run after Shivamogga cops unearthed his links with terror outfits three months previously. Shareeq stayed in Mysuru using a fake photo identity.
Police sources on Monday confirmed that three persons –- the house owner and two youths who assisted the prime accused Shareeq — were detained in Mysuru. They have been taken to Mangaluru as part of the investigation.
Shareeq is being treated in a Mangaluru hospital for injuries sustained in a low-intensity blast that happened late on Saturday.
Two of his friends had helped the accused to get a SIM card, assisted him in receiving training in mobile repair and visiting a place of worship, apart from local transport in Mysuru.
Shareeq is suspected to have manufactured the explosive material in the rented room in Mysuru. He was taking it to a place in Mangaluru when the blast happened.
Carrying the explosive stuffed in a pressure cooker, the suspect travelled in a bus from Mysuru and then took an auto to reach an undisclosed destination when the blast took place.
